Berluda Farmhouse
Surrounded by olive and apricot orchards, and set within lush gardens, Berluda Farmhouse offers luxury accommodation with all modern amenities. With 5 luxury bedrooms and 2 honeymoon rooms, guests can relax next to the sparkling swimming pool, and enjoy the many activities and facilities that we offer. Our relaxing garden-spa offers guests a wide variety of treatments.
Berluda Cottages
Just up the road from the farmhouse, the self-catering cottages are ideal for families, and guests wanting more privacy. Enjoy the evenings on the veranda while watching the stars, or light the fire for your BBQ-meal in the comfort of your cottage. As we can accommodate up to 44 guests, Berluda Farmhouse and Cottages is ideal for small family reunions, conferences and weddings, and offers business professionals and families alike the best opportunity to experience the beauty and wonder of our area.
Our family cottages offer 1 double and 1 twin bedroom. Some cottages can accommodate up to 5 people with an additional bed in the lounge area. The main bathroom has a spa bath, separate toilet, shower, and granite top basins. The second bathroom offers a shower and toilet only. Our Cottages are situated around an old farm reservoir that was converted into a sparkling blue swimming pool with views of the Swartberg Mountains.

From Cape Town via the R62
Take the N1 to Worcester. From Worcester take the R60 to Montagu. From Montagu take the R62 and continue on the R62 through the towns of Barrydale, Ladismith and Calitzdorp to reach the town of Oudtshoorn. As you enter the town of Oudtshoorn continue straight on until you reach Baron van Reede Street (at 3 rd traffic light ). Turn left into Baron van Reede Street ( at the 3 rd traffic light ) and continue straight on this main road to the Cango Caves for +- 15 km’s. Look out for the signpost to Schoemanshoek on your left-hand side. Turn left into Schoemanshoek and drive directly toward the church. At the church, turn left and follow a gravel road for 300m. Turn right at the Berluda Farmhouse & Cottages sign and follow the signposts to the reception.
From George (Garden Route):
Take the N12 over the Outeniqua pass and follow the road signs to Oudtshoorn. As you enter the town of Oudtshoorn, continue straight on (the main road to the Cango Caves) After +- 15 km’s. Look out for the signpost to Schoemanshoek on your left-hand side. Turn left into Schoemanshoek and drive directly toward the church. At the church, turn left and follow a gravel road for 300m. Turn right at the Berluda Farmhouse & Cottages sign and follow the signposts to the reception.
From Beaufort West (N1 from Gauteng):
Take the N12 from Beaufort West through Meiringspoort and the town of De Rust to Oudtshoorn. As you enter the town of Oudtshoorn continue straight on until you reach Baron van Reede Street ( at 3 rd traffic light ). Ostrich Tours
The Schoeman family present tours on their farm and this non-commercial private ostrich farm tour offer guests a unique opportunity to gain an insight into the farming activities of a real working ostrich farm.
Join Leon or Jade on a tour of one of the biggest ostrich farms, and learn more about the unique products of this big bird such as the leather, feathers and healthy meat. A visit to the hatchery completes this unforgettable experience.
Our tours offer an animal-friendly alternative, with no riding of ostriches.
Sunset Drives
End your perfect day with a sunset safari at Berluda Farmhouse and Cottages and discover the sights, sounds, smells and tastes of the Little Karoo.
An opportunity to see not only species such as giraffe, springbok, kudu, eland and wildebeest, but also some of the almost 150 species of birds, including the fish eagle. Our wildlife reserve comprises a combined area of over 5000 hectares, and our guide introduces you to some of the indigenous Karoo vegetation, some to be found nowhere else in the world.
Enjoy one of the magnificent Karoo sunsets over the Swartberg Mountains while sipping a sundowner.
Meerkat Encounter
One of the highlights when visiting Berluda is the introduction of our Meerkat Family! Join us on an early morning drive down to their burrows. Your guide will introduce you to the daily lives of these cute creatures. Wait patiently with a cup of coffee/tea in the hand, as they start to appear in the early morning to start their day. A once in a lifetime experience, only possible in the Little Karoo.
Fishing
Come and join us for an afternoon or morning at one of the many dams found on the farm and try your hand at catching some Carp or Bass, pose for a photo and release your catch to be caught again. Your Guide will assist you with setting up and will show you the ropes on how to catch these sometimes-elusive fish.
Mountain Biking
The Garden Route and the Klein Karoo are quickly becoming well known for its mountain biking and with races like the Cape Pioneer Trek, Attakwas Extreme Mountain Bike Challenge and The 36One Mountain Bike Challenge making certain routes more well-known. Explore the different roads that course through the farms.
Hiking
Join us for a hike amongst the beautiful unspoilt veld that surrounds Berluda. Here you can take a closer look at all the smaller things that make the Klein Karoo ecosystem tick, from special adaptations that the plants employ to survive, to medicinal uses. Have a look at the finer details of many animals that are often overlooked. Enjoy the surrounding scenery and lose yourself in nature with us.
Horse Riding
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to experience the karoo on horseback? Upon request you can take out some of the farms horses and experience the veld via horseback, this allows you to encounter animals from a closer perspective. Go offroad and test the best 4×4’s around.
