The four Black Oystercatcher Cottages are beautifully furnished with king-size beds or two single beds and private bathrooms. Each cottage has an equipped kitchenette. And for the chilly winter months two cottages feature an inside fireplace in the lounge area. Step outside onto a patio (with an expansive view) and make use of the braai area. All linen and towels are provided. And you’ll also have access to free Wi-Fi.
The cottages are set next door to the Black Oystercatcher Restaurant, on a working wine farm. So guests can enjoy lunch at the restaurant (platters can be arranged for dinner). And in summer, make the most of our outdoor pool to cool down, and our natural landscape for cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities.

The Black Oystercatcher winery and restaurant are found in the southern-most wine ward on the African continent, the Elim wine ward. The Black Oystercatcher wine farm is itself situated close to the small missionary town of Elim, meaning ‘Place of God’.
This historic town was founded in 1824, and is today still inhabited only by members of the Moravian church. The church building is based in the heart of Elim, and the town boasts a number of national heritage sites. Elim is home to the only monument in the country to commemorate the freeing of the slaves in 1834. It also has one of the last working water-mills in the Western Cape Province. Other towns situated close to the Elim wine ward include Bredasdorp, Agulhas, Struisbaai and Gansbaai.

The Elim wine ward, and the greater Agulhas Plain region, is increasingly luring tourists to its many attractions. Aside from the wine farms, the Agulhas Plain is home to many nature-based tourism activities, not least those offered by the Nuwejaars Wetland Special Management Area.
Other sites to visit on the Agulhas Plain include the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, the Waenhuiskrans Cave, the fisherman’s harbour in Arniston and the many nature reserves in the area. For the more brave, don’t forget to go shark-cage diving at Gansbaai. Accommodation is also available throughout the area – from the more affordable B&B’s, to the more expensive guesthouses and hotels.
We have recently launched our mountain bike cycling route with various routes for all levels of experience.
