The 12 rooms at Blue Gum Estate are all different, as you would expect in a private home. Some are more spacious, others more family-friendly, but they all have a warm domestic feeling with an emphasis on quality and comfort. Several of the rooms have open fireplaces, which we are more than happy to light for you in the winter.
Mountain View Cottages
Each of our 5 family-friendly Mountain View Cottages are conveniently situated close to the restaurant and kids play area, making them perfect for families travelling with younger children. Two of the cottages can accommodate four people with a main bedroom and an adjoining room with two single beds. The other three come with a Queen-size bed but are spacious enough to accommodate extra mattresses and camp cots should our family cottages be unavailable.
Decorated in elegant English country style with soft colours, comfortable furniture and the warmth of wood underfoot, they all lead out onto the garden and offer mountain views from every window. Each cottage is equipped with a full bathroom that includes a bath and shower.
Room Facilities
English Country Style, Queen Bed, Family Units (Queen & Twin Beds), Full Bathroom (Shower & Bath), Tea & Coffee Facilities, In Room Fan, Fireplace, Bar fridge, Electronic safe, bath robes, TV (Select Channels), Complimentary Toiletries, Private Verandah with Mountain Views
Blue Gum Cottages
Set away from the main hotel, our two Blue Gum Rooms are also family-friendly but more suited to those families with older children. Each cottage sleeps two, and comes with a King-size bed and an en-suite shower, as well as a private patio.

African Colonial Style, Twin or King Bed, Shower only, Tea & Coffee Facilities, TV (Select Channels), Complimentary Toiletries, Private Veranda with Vineyard Views
All our rooms are set amongst an olive grove, vineyards, rolling lawns and extensive gardens with access to the hotel’s swimming pool and tennis court. There is also a scenic Mountain trail available for use by hotel guests. We also have an extensive library with board games and boule sets as well as a library of DVD’s.
We can supply mattresses, children’s camp cots, microwaves, DVD players (with access to our DVD library), all at an additional nominal cost.
We’re just a 10-minute drive from the historical town of Stanford and 20 minutes from the ‘French Riviera of the Western Cape’, the coastal clifftop village of Hermanus. Not to mention the vineyards of Elim, the fascinating Moravian mission station with its whitewashed cottages, fruit trees and its beautiful church which is a national monument. Award-winning restaurants and artists studios abound in these parts and we’d love to point you in the right direction, once we know what you’re looking for.
From the Garden Route and N2
If travelling on the Garden Route along the N2 there is a turn off to your left (R326) 10km after the town of Riviersonderend. Continue along the R326 for approximately 40km until you reach a 4 way crossing. Carry on straight over the road along the R326. The turn off to Blue Gum is now approx. 12 km from the crossing on your right.
From Cape Town International and Hermanus
If travelling from Cape Town International, head Southwest and turn left onto Michigan Street. Take a left onto Borcherds Quarry Road. Merge onto N2 Road via the ramp to Somerset West. Continue straight along the N2 until you reach the R43 Hermanus turn off from the N2 (just after Houw Hoek Pass), proceed through Hermanus, following the signs to Stanford/Gansbaai, as you approach the town of Stanford there is a four way intersection, turn left (onto the R326) past the Birkenhead Brewery and proceed for 7km, at which point you will see our turn off left,
follow our signs on the gravel road (same turning as the Klein Rivier Cheese Factory). We are the farm after White Water Lodge.
From Caledon
If you wish to bypass Hermanus and travel through Caledon to Blue Gum then proceed along the N2 to Caledon. Go through the town of Caledon following the signs that say Bredasdorp/Napier (R316). Approximately 29km outside of Caledon in the direction of Bredasdorp/Napier you will intersect the R326 route from the N2/Riviersonderend (as detailed in the second paragraph above). This intersection will be signposted left to
Riviersonderend and right to Stanford, turn right and follow the R326 for 10km to the Blue Gum turn off, which will be on your right, (on same gravel road as the Kleinrivier Cheese Factory).
