SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION
The house is available as a unit. It is a spacious house with three bedrooms. The main bedroom has one double bed as well as a baby cot and there is plenty space to also accommodate small children on a mattress. This bedroom also has a cupboard for personal items and a dressing table with a mirror.
The 2nd room has two single beds with a cupboard for personal items. The 3rd room has two single beds with a cupboard for personal items. It also has a beautiful view towards the mountains in Lady Grey and overlooks some of the camps where the sheep are grazing. All bedrooms include storage space for personal belongings, linen, blankets, electric blankets and heating panels and bath towels. Bring own swimming towels.
The kitchen is fully equipped with a microwave, stove, kettle, toaster, fridge (with small freezer space). A dining table with six chairs is in the kitchen. All crockery for up to eight persons are provided as are glasses, mugs, pots, pans and utensils for using in the braai area.
The lounge is also spacious; with no television , Wi-Fi connection – tokens available for Wi Fi hotspot (all MTN, Cell C and Vodacom signals are available). A few magazines are in the house as well as board games and one or two puzzles to keep you busy. Visitors’ can unwind and read books, play board games or cards to get a full getaway from the city in this lounge. A patio (stoep) also overlooks the rest of the farm and you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the sounds of birds such as fish eagles, mahems and lots of tarentaal.
The undercover braai is just outside the backdoor of the house. Bring your own firewood or charcoal. There is also an undercover parking on site for two vehicles. The house has Eskom power and candles are provided for load shedding.
Oppi-Plaas is only 20 km away from Lady Grey. This town has a scenic nature that must be explored. The route over the Joubert Pass that starts in Lady Grey is a must. There are lots of picnic spots on this route, you can decide where and when to throw out the blanket and have a lunch or picnic while taking this drive. The annual events of Lady Grey is Easter (Passion Play), Lady Grey Royal McNab in July, Lady Grey Agricultural Show (July) , Lammergeyer Mountain Race (Sept) , Sky Run (November).
We are also on route to Barkly East and Rhodes and the well known Tiffandale Ski Resort in Rhodes.
Our nearest airport is in Bloemfontein(250km). We do not offer any airport transfers or organized trips. Horse riding lessens can also be arranged on one of the nearby farms. A fully detailed catalogue of all activities is available in the house on arrival. We, David and Estha Marais, the owners of this farm would like to make your stay at Oppi-Plaas a homely and welcome pleasant stay.
There are 2 restaurants, as well as a butchery, Pep Stores, Dr, Fnb, Standard Bank, Police Station , Hospital and Foodzone Grocery Store in Lady Grey.
Directions from the R58:
- Drive on the R58 from Aliwal North towards Lady Grey;
- At Oubout, 40 km from Aliwal North, take the Bosjeslaagte turn-off on your right-hand side;
- Drive 5 km on a gravel road;
- Pass the Mtini railway road and keep straight until you get to the “Brakfontein David and Estha Marais” turn-off on you left-hand side, Oppi-Plaas is situated on this farm;
- Please note, the gravel road can be reached with 4×4 or 2×4 vehicles.

Breakfast & Meals available
Coffee, tea, rooibos tea, sugar, milk and home made rusks will be provided apon arrival. The drinking water on Brakfontein Farm is safe and from a bore hole on the farm. No need to bring drinking or bottled water.
Please make use of the under cover braai at the back of the house or the braai in front of the house.

BREAKFAST PACKAGES
We do not cater for breakfast although breakfast packages are available to prepare by guests for themselves.
This include the following per person @ R60 pp: 2 eggs, 2 strips bacon, 1 serving boerewors, 2 slices bread (white or brown), butter, jam/cheese as well as a small serving of joghurt.

Deposit Required:
A 50% deposit fee is required when making a booking. The balance can be paid by EFT or cash. There are no card facilities.
Cancellation Policy:
- Cancellation within 14 days of stay – no refunds
- Cancellation between 15 and 30 days before stay – 25% of the deposit will be refunded
- Cancellation between 60 and 30 days before stay – 50% of the deposit will be refunded
- Cancellation more than 60 days before stay – full refund

ACTIVITIES
The owners, David and Estha Marais, resides on Brakfontein for the past 25 years. Hollstein cows are being milked twice daily. You are welcome to experience the daily farm activities like sheep and dairy tending. Sometimes if you are lucky and here at the right time of the year you will also be able to feed the “hanslammers” or experience shearing of sheep. You are welcome to join us in the milking parlour which takes place twice a day.
Kick off your shoes and relax. There is plenty of space on the farm to go for an early morning stroll before sunrise or late afternoon or even a jog on the main gravel road which can differ in distance to your own choice. You can also enjoy some bird watching. Bicycles are welcome; guests can ride on their bicycles on the farm or on the main gravel road or even the 20 km to Lady Grey and back.
A swimming pool is situated about 120m away from this house in the garden of the main house where the owner lives. Guests may use this swimming pool on arrangement and availability only. No children are allowed without adult supervision and guests may use only on own responsibility. There are a few dams on the farm where you can go fishing. Bring your own fishing gear. Bring your own canoe or paddle ski to use on one of the dams.
