Nestled between magnificent mountains and a serene, unspoiled valley, the charming historical town of Tulbagh provides an excellent base from which to explore the Cape Winelands and surrounding areas.
Neighbouring towns include Gouda, Wolseley, Ceres and Prince Alfred’s Hamlet.
Proteas and herbs, such as Buchu, grow wild in the mountainous area. The wildflowers in Spring annually attracts tourist from around the globe, and the valley produces some of the country’s best wines, olive oil, peaches, pears and plums.
Directions to Tulbagh:
From Cape Town take the N1 to Paarl, just before reaching Paarl take off ramp 47 – (Stellenbosch, Klapmuts, Wellington). Turn left onto the R44 and continue past the back of Paarl, to Wellington (+ 24kms). By pass Wellington following the signs for Ceres. Continue on the R44 for another + 45kms past the Hermon turn off, past the Gouda turn off and through the Nuwe Kloof Pass (R46 after Gouda). There are no signs marked Tulbagh until you are about 10 kilometers away. Turn left into Tulbagh.
Directions to Raptor Rise:
Drive down the main street of Tulbagh, Van Der Stel Street, at the 4 way stop, just past the Spar, turn left onto the Twee Jongh Gezellen Road. Travel for 4 kilometers past the little church in the vineyard on the hill (Montpellier). Turn left at the Raptor Rise sign,(a tar road) travel 1 kilometer, cross the Digger’s Home bridge, turn right after the bridge onto the dirt road, follow the dirt road for 1 kilometer up through the avenue of trees, past Digger’s Home Manager, past Diggers Home Entrance (on the left) and their staff quarters (on the right). Continue till you reach the Raptor Rise sign on the corner, turn left to come up to the Stables and our home, 50 meters on the right, or continue straight to go directly to the cottage, turning right down to the cottage at the signpost about 200m further along the road.

The Witzenberg Valley towns of Tulbagh, Wolseley and Ceres offer a variety of activities from the relaxed to the adventurous.
From sampling delectable hand crafted chocolates at Moniki to an adrenaline packed Zipslide or a round of golf surrounded by mountains, there is something for everyone.
Discover the Tulbagh valley on foot, bicycle or horseback. Hiking trails vary from gentle meanders to the strenuous, all with breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains.
Magnificent horse trails can be arranged with sundowners or picnics and several mountain bike trails are open to the public.
