JUNIOR RANGERS
It is our pleasure to present our all new, very unique Junior Ranger programme, in which we have upped the educational value and most importantly, the fun! After all, our motto is “Conservation through Education”!
The programme runs over weekends (on Saturdays and Sundays) and daily during school holidays. As children aged 3-18 take part, we have decided to separate the age groups in order to allow us to offer more age-appropriate activities and give each young ranger quality time.
The age groups are:
Ages 3-6: 09:00 – 10:00
This age group is specifically adapted to introduce these little ones to the environment. We build birds’ nests and colour-in pictures of animals using natural products.
Ages 7-11: 10:00 – 12:00
These busybodies spend most of their time on a dedicated mission through the bush. They collect different types of soil and learn how the soil affects the animal life, make leaf boats and bird hides from natural products and learn about the ecological role of different creatures in the bush.
Ages 13-18: 14:00 – 17:00
As these Rangers are starting to look into what they would like to do after school, we think it is important to give them skills that they can use if they were to decide on a career in conservation – these include firearm safety by target practice with pellet guns, guided game drives and guided bush walks.
For Junior Rangers in this age group who are serious about a career in conservation, we also offer the option to complete the full FGASA Nature Guide Level 1 with us. They will be provided with the learning material, workbook as well as a mentor to guide and work with them.
