Undoubtedly one of the best family restaurants in Hout Bay is Dunes. The restaurant prides itself on being the only beach restaurant on the Atlantic seaboard in Cape Town.
During the day it is very popular with families as the children all have immense fun in the giant sandy playground with its swings and jungle gym. The kids’ menu is also a hit, offering delights such as fish and chips, calamari, burgers, toasted sandwiches, corn on the cob, fruit salad and slush puppies.
Dunes Restaurant has stunning views of Chapman’s Peak, the Sentinel, and of course the beach – the setting undoubtedly lends itself for every occasion. Whether it’s for an early morning stroll across the beach before enjoying their superb ‘Eggs Benedict’, or a delicious lunch whilst savouring the wonderful uninterrupted views, they have a choice to suit you. It is a favourite spot for the locals to have their favourite cocktail as the sun goes down behind the mountains. The menu is extensive and offers excellent seafood as well as a wide variety of great meats, hamburgers, sandwiches and fresh salads to choose from. For dinner they offer a Bistro menu (available Tuesday – Saturday), featuring exceptional steaks, curries and contemporary bistro classics. For dessert, try the Double chocolate fudge pudding with ice cream! On weekends and public holidays, Dunes also offer a breakfast buffet – perfect for a sunny morning’s relaxation while the kids make friends and exhaust themselves in the sandpit.
