ACTIVITIES
Activities on the Pat Busch Mountain Reserve include hiking, fishing, swimming, paddling, biking and plenty of outdoor activities involving clean country air and sunshine. Please note that these on site activities are offered exclusively to guests staying overnight and are not open to the general public or to day visitors.
The following activities are available at Pat Busch Mountain Reserve:
Hiking in our Private Mountains
Beautiful scenery awaits the nature lover! The reserve offers several trails, from mountain fynbos and protea hikes to kloof hikes along wooded streams. Hiking trails are not open to the public, and are exclusively for the enjoyment of our overnight guests which means that guests can walk or hike in complete safety. Each cottage has a detailed map of our trails. Please remember to never hike alone, and to be prepared with enough food and water, good hiking boots, common sense and a jacket. Take nothing but photos and leave nothing but footprints. Hikes take 3-5 hours and can be difficult.
Fishing, Swimming and Paddling in our Dams
Our freshwater mountain dam is a short walk from the cottages. The dam wall is lawned with shade, plus a large jetty from which you can fish or jump. There are row boats, a single and double kayak is included for our guests. Life vests and oars are at the hall. Bring along your fishing tackle for bass and Kurper (Tilapia) fishing on a strict catch and release basis.
Swimming and Tanning at our Saltwater Pool
In 2014 we installed a large 4x9m saltwater swimming pool complete with martini seat facing the spectacular mountain view, and a wide shallow step where young children can cool down under supervision. The charcoal pool usually warms up naturally and reaches 25-30 degrees C in summer. The pool is surrounded by rolling green lawns with shade sails and sun loungers for the diva in you.
Fauna and Flora on our Reserve
There is an abundant range both fauna and flora (including a rare protea Vexatorella Latebrosa), as well as bird life on the nature reserve (approx. 150 different species). Bring your own binoculars!
Hire our quality Mountain Bikes (MTB)
In 2014 we purchased two new Axis 90 mountain bikes with front suspension and Shimano 18 speed parts. These bikes are great quality and very comfortable – so try out some fun mountain bike action over the weekend or explore the Klaasvoogds valley by cycling to nearby restaurants for breakfast or drinks. Bike rental is R150 per day/ R100 for a half day incl. helmets.
Mountain Biking in the Area
Bring along your own mountain bike or hire one from us while staying at Pat Busch and explore the Klaasvoogds Meander. There are a few trails to explore – please ask for a map when booking or find one in the cottage!
